YMCA OF GREATER HARTFORD JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Counselor In Training (C.I.T) Reports to: Conference and Retreats Director Revision Date: 01/15/2025 Leadership Level: Leader This is an unpaid volunteer role. The YMCA of Greater Hartford is an association open to all committed to helping people reach their potential in spirit, mind, and body. POSITION SUMMARY: The Counselor in Training or CIT is primarily responsible for the safety and well-being of campers in their cabin and assisting in programs. In addition, the CIT is expected to participate in all CIT programs, activities and training. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Assist Senior Counselor in the guidance and well-being of a group of 10-14 campers 2. Actively participate in the camp program that includes activities with campers, CIT training, service projects and involvement in evening programs with campers 3. Supervise all areas of cabin life, such as morning chores, camper health and safety, evening 4. Actively participate in other camp responsibilities as given by the camp administration, such as lifeguarding, attendance in individual meetings with CIT Directors, attendance in all-staff meetings. 5. Maintain and upkeep living and program areas with daily cleanings. 6. Adhere to the expectations stated in the CIT Standards of Conduct. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: • At least 15 years of age • Participation in YMCA Leadership-In-Training Program preferred • Strong desire to work with children and to develop leadership skills • An understanding and acceptance of the purpose and expectations of YMCA • Emotional maturity and moral character, particularly embodiment of the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
