POSITION SUMMARY Volunteering at the YMCA is a meaningful way to show care for others and contribute to the well-being of children, families, and the broader community. By offering your time and talents, you’ll help foster a supportive environment while gaining opportunities to build relationships, learn new skills, and grow personally. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Volunteer responsibilities vary by department and are based on program needs, operational priorities, and individual interests and skill sets. Examples of potential duties include: 1. Assisting with the planning and execution of community events. 2. Setting up and breaking down equipment, furniture, decorations, and activity materials. 3. Supporting activity stations or facilitating engagement during events. 4. Welcome members, assisting with check-in, and providing general support at the front desk. 5. Helping with administrative tasks such as mailing, data entry, and filing. 6. Assisting with custodial tasks, cleaning, and organizing in support of the maintenance team. 7. Engaging with children in the Kids Zone through storytelling, play, and other activities. REQUIREMENTS 1. Completion of the volunteer application, background check, and required training. 2. A positive attitude, enthusiasm, and dedication to service. 3. Reliability in fulfilling assigned time and task commitments. 4. Business casual attire or YMCA-provided volunteer uniform. 5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 6. Adherence to all YMCA policies and procedures. 7. Commitment to the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. 8. Creating a safe and nurturing environment by reporting any suspicious activity or conduct violations. 9. Volunteers must be age 16 or older; those under 16 may participate with parental supervision and support.

Camp Woodstock YMCA
Complete general custodial, maintenance and administrative projects throughout the camp. Tasks many include indoor and outdoor work based on the volunteers abilities and assignments. Hours are flexible and will be scheduled with each volunteer.

Wilson-Gray YMCA Youth & Family Center
The Wilson-Gray YMCA is seeking passionate and creative volunteers to lead a weekly sewing class for teens. This is a great opportunity to share your skills, mentor young people, and support hands-on learning in a welcoming community environment. Position: Volunteer Sewing Class Instructor (Teens) Location: Hartford Schedule: Wednesdays, 3:00–5:00 PM Commitment: Ongoing through September 2026 What You’ll Do: Lead engaging, beginner-to-intermediate sewing classes for teens Teach basic to advancing sewing techniques and safe equipment use Help students complete small projects and build creative confidence Create a supportive, inclusive, and encouraging classroom atmosphere Support Provided: On-site supervision throughout each class Program assistance from branch staff or volunteers Access to classroom space and equipment (details provided during onboarding) Ideal Volunteers: Have sewing experience and enjoy working with teens Are patient, reliable, and encouraging Can commit to a consistent weekly schedule Teaching or mentoring experience is helpful but not required This is a meaningful way to give back, inspire creativity, and help teens develop practical skills they can use for years to come. Thanks to the generosity of the Brandt Foundation, the Greater Hartford YMCA has been given the opportunity to serve 1,000 Hartford Youth free swimming lessons. By becoming a volunteer, you will be able to help underserved youth learn the lifesaving skill of swimming.
